211 villages are declared as Child Labour Free in Tirunelveli district, South India.
Majority of child labour free villages are where the Beedi Workers Sangam / other village level forums are active.
The child labour incidence in the working blocks has been brought down during the last five years.
986 Child Labourers were withdrawn from works and were enrolled
in formal schools.
183 village level anti-child labour committees are active.
158 women beedi workers associations and 2 Block level federations
are functioning.
District Level Child Rights Monitoring Committee is active in protecting the rights of the children.
The leadership quality among the women beedi workers has improved. The workers have started demanding fair wages from the industry as a whole by collectively working with other workers in the areas.
Initiated Child Labour Elimination Action Net (CLEAN) a network involved
in promotion and protection of child rights in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
53 anti dowry associations have been formed in Alangulam Block.
Two of the Senior Women Programme Coordinators are identified by the State Police Department as women counselors.
The Govt. labour department has identified the Women Programme Coordinator as a member in the committee against sexual harassment of women at work place in Tirunelveli District.
